This is the oiled version of the N1, which is designed to improve water resistance. Due to whipcord's natural resistance to absorption, the heavy oiling increases the fabric's weight from our standard 12 oz. to approximately 14 oz., making this the heaviest version of the N1 in our lineup.
As with last year’s model, we now use a more eco-friendly oiling process for this jacket. Previously, the oiling process contained fluorine, a compound that poses environmental risks. Now, a fluorine-free coating achieves the same level of water repellency as before with a double layer of oil and a slightly waxier hand feel.
Of course, as an Iron Heart deck jacket, the original N1 design has a few innovative upgrades, most notably a hidden chino interlining that enhances wind resistance and a heavy-duty, two-way zipper that is concealed beneath the traditional buttoned storm placket. These features create a formidable winter jacket.
