The West Cost Shoe Company (Wesco) was founded by John H. Shoemaker in 1918 in Portland, Oregon. At that time, Oregon was the logging capital of the world and Wesco supplied boots for those working in the timber industry.
After closing during the Great Depression, Wesco reopened a short time later in nearby Scappoose, Oregon, where it is still located. The company is currently run by the 3rd and 4th generations of the Shoemaker family. All boots continue to be made in a 155 step process at the Scappoose factory and only the finest materials, including full-grain leather, are used.
